Message from the Associate Director
There’s a wonderful tradition of summer Jazz in New York City. It’s celebrated in songs, paintings, festivals and films. When summer hits its swing, so does the music that moves us. June marks the start of a new season, with long days and longer nights out and about town, enjoying the Great American Art in this, the Capital of Jazz. The Town Hall is thrilled to welcome the Blue Note Jazz Festival and to host incredible jazz concerts in June featuring legends, mavericks and new artists. These concerts highlight the diverse nature of jazz and honor all the character, culture and style of a music that is a reflection of this city’s people.
We present legendary composers like Cuban pianist Chucho Valdes (June 21) and saxophonist Wayne Shorter (June 28), pioneers David Sanborn and Bob James (June 6), young talents like Esperanza Spalding (June 28), and artists like Buika (June 13) whose sound threads multiple continents. June is Jazz at The Town Hall, and we’re proud, not only to continue this summer tradition, but to expand the great history of jazz at our storied venue. Thelonious Monk, Billie Holiday, Charles Mingus, Sarah Vaughan, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Ornette Coleman and dozens more have graced our stage. This summer, we invite audiences to experience this new history of jazz at Town Hall.
